Tomato

Description

The tomato is a herbaceous plant. The fruit of most varieties ripens to a distinctive red color. Tomato plants typically reach to 1–3 metres (3–10 ft) in height, and have a weak, woody stem that often vines over other plants. Native to South America, tomato is now grown worldwide for its edible fruits. There are around 7500 tomato varieties grown for various purposes. Tomatoes are often picked unripe and ripened in storage with ethylene.
